How are Diamonds made in a Lab?

Lab-grown diamonds are manufactured in controlled environments that replicate the conditions under which natural diamonds form deep within the Earth. Two primary techniques, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and High Temperature High Pressure (HPHT) are employed to produce these synthetic diamonds, which are indistinguishable from their naturally occurring counterparts.

Most of our diamonds at CraftyCarat, are created through CVD method to offer you the most chemically purest, sustainable, and affordable diamonds. Take a glance at this breakthrough innovation of humankind below.

Step 1

Diamond Seeds

Diamond seeds, tiny fragments of natural diamonds, are used as a starting point for growing larger lab-grown diamonds. These seeds provide a foundation upon which the diamond can crystallize.

Step 2

The Creation of Rough

Imagine a tiny diamond seed nestled inside a high-tech oven filled with a special mix of carbon-rich gases. At 1,000 degrees, these gases transform into a dazzling, superheated state called plasma. As the plasma particles collide with the seed, they bond together, layer by layer, creating the rough diamond.

Step 3

Planning & Cutting

A rough diamond requires a meticulously planned cutting process to reveal its full potential. The rough is cut using advanced laser cutting technology to ensure unmatched precision, efficiency, safety, and speed. Fundamental facet’s proportions determine the internal reflection and refraction of light within the diamond.

Step 4

Polishing or Brillianteering

Finally, each facet of a diamond is meticulously polished to a mirror-like finish by placing the rough on a rotating arm on a spinning wheel. A polished diamond is essentially a miniature system of mirrors emerging into a dazzling display of brilliance and fire.

Step 5

Grading & Certification

A diamond's certification provides a comprehensive assessment of its quality, detailing its 4Cs: carat weight, color, clarity, and cut. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and International Gemological Institute (IGI) are world-renowned leaders in diamond grading. All our diamonds at CraftyCarat are certified by IGI or GIA.
